Transforming Armenia Through Education: a Meeting with Teachers in Tavush

On June 10, Dilijan Central School hosted the event “Transforming Armenia Through Education: Meeting with Teachers in Tavush” at the initiative of the Ayb Educational Foundation, bringing together about 60 teachers.

At the beginning of the event, Khachik Abajyan, project manager at the Ayb Educational Foundation, introduced the meeting’s purpose and agenda. Vahe Gabrielyan, executive director of the Ayb Educational Foundation, welcomed the meeting participants. Mr. Gabrielyan particularly highlighted the importance of continuous and consistent work with teachers, noting that real and comprehensive changes in the education system should start from marzes.

Aram Mehrabyan, executive director of Dilijan Central School, also welcomed the participants, emphasizing the role of such meetings in teachers’ professional development and educational innovation.

Davit Sahakyan, executive director of Ayb School, delivered a keynote speech on “How to Create a Values-Based Environment in Schools.” Mr. Sahakyan highlighted the importance of the school not only as a knowledge-transferring institution but also as an environment rooted in national and universal values, shaping thoughtful and responsible citizens.

In the second part of the meeting, teachers were divided into small groups and took part in thematic discussions.

  • The “Coaching for Teachers” session, led by Solange Tamamyan, senior psychologist at Ayb School, focused on psychological tools for effective communication with students and positive motivation.
  • The “Project-Based Learning” session, led by Anahit Hovhannisyan, head of the Armenian language and literature subject group at Ayb School, lecturer at the American University of Armenia, and education expert, explored ways to make learning more practical and engaging through project-based approaches.

This format enabled teachers not only to acquire new skills but also to engage in active discussions, share their own experiences, and jointly explore ways to address challenges in schools.

The event was concluded by Sharistan Melkonian, director of the Ayb Educational Foundation's Ayb Academy. Ms. Melkonian expressed gratitude to the participants for their high level of engagement and participation, summarized the outcomes of the day, and reaffirmed the commitment to maintain an active dialogue with the teaching community for the improvement of education quality.
