After having conducted five online workshops, the Armenian team of Khan Academy visited Gyumri to observe the experience of implementing the tools of the platform in classrooms through trained teachers. Let us recall that a series of workshops had been organized for 40 teachers of natural and exact sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics) in public schools of Gyumri with the funding of the U.S. Embassy. This is one of the recent initiatives of the Ayb Educational Foundation for development of the scientific and technological sphere in our country.
The teachers who acquired new skills during the open classes conducted at Gyumri Economic College, Oyunjyan School-College, Schools No. 15 and No. 7, Base School-College of Progress University and Photon College, tested all the educational technologies of Khan Academy that make the learning process more interesting, participatory, interactive and flexible for children. The participants particularly used the inverted classroom model; the tool of assigning tasks on the Khan Academy's platform and of tracking the progress during the lesson; the opportunity of explaining a new topic with the help of videos and exercises, and the methods of peer assessment. Teachers consider the access to this free Armenian-language platform a great advantage, especially in marzes, taking into account that it equally helps teachers and students both in classroom, online and in the hybrid educational model. The teachers wished to see the list of subjects and tests on the platform more and more expanded. The workshops will continue until September, taking into consideration the already gained experience and the necessity to develop new skills based on it.
The visit to Gyumri ended with a meeting-discussion at the Gyumri Technology Center organized for students, during which all their questions about the implementation of Khan Academy were answered. As part of this program we will also work with 900 students.
