Meghu Also Unites the Media Around Armenian

On December 14, three-member teams of six mass media—the Hetq Newspaper, Armenpress News Agency, Mediamax News Agency, Azatutyun Radio Station, Sputnik Armenia News Agency and Aravot Daily—came together around the Meghu—Armenian for Everyone competition. The game-competition adjusted to the media was conducted at Ayb School as part of the Ayb Educational Foundation’s 15th anniversary events. As a result of the two stages, the Hetq team was recognized the winner of the competition. The second and third places were taken by the teams of Sputnik Armenia and Azatutyun Radio respectively.

Sona Koshetsyan, the executive director of the Ayb Educational Foundation, delightedly mentioned that the love toward the mother tongue managed to bring together the participant teams around the Meghu competition. Since 2014 the competition has had 220 thousand participants. In 2021, the media also took part in it, engaging in education. She highlighted the path that Ayb has taken with the media during 15 years of activity, attaching importance to the increasing number of readers of education-related materials, especially in recent years, as well as the support and role of the media in covering educational projects.

Davit Sahakyan, the Ayb School head and valued attendee of the event, in his remarks on the 15-year-old educational movement, talked about the partnership with mass media and their role as important language agents. “The media accumulates the simple educational function of transferring knowledge and ideas, and it guidelines how to write competently. On the other hand, it conveys the educational needs of the audience. The venue of this year's competition is Ayb School, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Established thanks to entirely community donations, the school is a unique social program in the field of private education.”

At the end, the teams toured in Ayb School and got acquainted with the history and activities of the school that was created with innovative principles.

In 2021, for the first time, the Meghu competition was also held in a new format adjusted to the media. The goal was to also unite the mass media with the love and care for the mother tongue, as the media play an important role in preservation and dissemination of the language.
