Russian Bear Cub

Russian for Everyone
Program
Description

The Russian Bear Cub contest is considered the “younger brother” of the Kangaroo international math contest. The Ayb Educational Foundation is the exclusive organizer of the "Russian Bear Cub—Linguistics for Everyone" international Russian language contest in Armenia (since 2010) and in Artsakh (since 2011).

The Russian Bear Cub contest is:

• logical and interesting;

• simple and accessible for all children, regardless of their academic progress;

• presents both linguistic and logical questions;

• enhances the appeal of learning foreign languages.

The main goal of the contest is to spur interest toward the Russian language, unveiling its beauty and richness for students.

The Russian Bear Cub helps further the popularization of the Russian language in Armenia, improves students’ linguistic thinking, and gives extra motivation to study new foreign languages.

The contest is conducted in a child-friendly online environment. There is no prerequisite for participation. The online competition also promotes the development of computer literacy skills. Certificates and small souvenirs are given to all participants and the schools’ results are not compared with each other.

  • The contest is open to all students in grades 2-12.
  • The competition’s assignments are logical and captivating, intended to develop linguistic thinking and abilities.
  • No specific rules or knowledge are required. The contest’s problems do not depend on curricula.
  • The competition consists of a single stage held on the same day, without any selection phases.
  • The schools’s results are not compared with each other. Each student competes only with themselves, trying their skills at Russian language and literature.
  • All participants receive certificates and souvenirs.

Since its launch, this Russian language contest has engaged 76,229 participants from Armenia and Artsakh, instilling love for this subject and deepening logical thinking in children.

Through a memorandum signed in September 2023, the Ayb Educational Foundation transferred the rights for holding the competition to its partner, the Contests' Lab Educational NGO.
