A series of training on the provision of essential life-saving skills for adolescents (ages 13 to 17) in Armenia have been launched by UNICEF Armenia together with the Ayb Educational Foundation.

The objective of the initiative is empowering young people through social and emotional learning to support the processes of strengthening the social cohesion, reconciliation, and adaptation of the adolescents to the post-war realities, their rehabilitation and social development. In six months we visited almost all high schools and educational NGOs in 22 communities in 9 marzes of Armenia.

The program was implemented in two phases:

· The first phase of the training (February-July) was carried out in Gegharkunik and Tavush marzes as well as in the cites of Ashtarak and Yerevan (350 adolescents and 60 regional specialists).

· The second phase of the training (July-January) funded by the Embassy of Japan in Armenia was held in the marzes of Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Ararat, Armavir and Kotayk (500 adolescents and 75 regional specialists).

The groups of participants of the program were formed according to the psychological needs of the participants.

· Total groups – 25

· Participants (per group) – 16-20

· Thematic component - 2

 

Total number of participants of two-phase trainings:

· 850 adolescents

· 135 regional specialists

 

Stress management skills as assessed by participants:

· 50% - before the launch of the program

· 81% - at the end of the program
